While comforters and duvets are undeniably comfortable, they can sometimes be too warm for hot sleepers. Instead, consider opting for a cooling blanket. Made from moisture wicking materials, cooling blankets are designed to help regulate your temperature while you sleep.

What to Look for When You Shop

With so many blankets on the market, it can be difficult to identify which ones have cooling properties. As you shop, there are a few factors you should look out for.

  • Moisture wicking materials: Look for blankets formulated with absorbent materials. "Moisture-wicking material is going to remove moisture from your skin and bring it to the outer surface of a material," says Tom Ryan, product expert at Sleep Foundation. The material won't allow sweat or moisture to get trapped near your body, which is what makes you hot as you sleep. Generally, linen, bamboo, and cotton, are the best materials for cooling blankets. "Each of these fabrics is light, breathable, and can wick away moisture on those hot summer nights," says Ryan.
  • Weave type: Weave refers to how strands of yarn are woven together to form a fabric. Certain weaves are more breathable than others. "Hot sleepers should look at blankets made from a percale weave," says Ryan. "Plenty of blankets are also made with linen, or an open, chunky weave, which is great for nights where you want to be a little cozy, but don’t necessarily want the added warmth."

With these factors in mind, we rounded up some of the best cooling blankets on the market for you to shop now. From throw blankets to king-size options, these blankets will keep hot sleepers comfortable all night long.
