The well-appointed kitchens currently splashed across your social media feeds likely have one key feature in common: a pot rack. Even though they may seem like a trending kitchen design element, they've been a staple for centuries. And for good reason: These rods and racks, which often come in polished gold or gleaming stainless steel, blend form and function. Just take it from Martha, who is a major fan of this feature (when she renovated one of her kitchens on Bedford Farm a few years ago, she made sure to include one to show off her copper pot collection).

According to principal designer Heather Fujikawa, pot racks were ubiquitous in old European homes and basement kitchens of castles but have made their way into modern interior design. They bring a charming touch into the home, put your pot collection on display, and come in a myriad of styles; you can choose from a single rod studded into the wall, a suspended rack that hangs from the ceiling, and more. "I grew up going to my grandma's ranch house where she had a pot rack hanging over the kitchen island," says Fujikawa, noting that she needed to mind her head in the space. "Sometimes you'd bump your head on a copper pan—but it did grab my attention to realize how beautiful the pans are and how you can use everyday items to decorate your kitchen."

Depending on the layout of your kitchen, you may choose to place your pot rack hanging over your island, above your countertops, attached to a wall near your stove, or fixed just beneath your upper cabinetry. Ultimately, you can't go wrong: "This is a forever trend and a great way to accessorize while adding a touch of historic beauty—and they save space, too," she says. Here, we spoke with interior decorators and professional organizers who recommended their top picks for pot racks for any and every kitchen.

Maybe your kitchen isn't small—maybe it's actually minuscule. Or, perhaps you're renting and don't want to unnecessarily add holes to the wall. You can still reap the functional benefits of a pot rack without much fuss by choosing one that fits inside a drawer. "Deep drawer pot racks are my personal favorite as a professional organizer because you can just pull open, grab what you need, and slide the drawer close without reaching into cabinets or standing on a step stool to get a pot from the hanging rack," Duckworth says. "Most have room, so you can include the pot lid and keep the full set together, saving you both space and time—no more looking around for the lids to fit the pots and pans!"

Fujikawa is a fan of this pot rack for two reasons: the minimal design and the linear interest it brings to the space. "While we love the look of this piece hanging in the center of the room above a kitchen island, it would also be a great option to hang closer to the wall in a prep kitchen or walk-in pantry as a space-saving solution—while still acting as an accessory to the room by showcasing different pots and mixing various metals," she says.
