Bowne & Co. Stationers

Tucked away in the South Street Seaport Museum in New York City, this small-batch printing firm was originally founded in 1775. Bowne & Co., Inc. was once New York's oldest and largest printing firm. By the turn of the 19th century, it was one of hundreds like it in lower Manhattan—all printing the documents required to facilitate shipping, trade, and finance in the port.
