This Couple Brought Their Enchanted Garden-Themed Wedding to Life at a Distillery in Seattle

Gate Motif

Brad teamed up with Kelsey from Grey & Cake to design the invitation suite, which was packaged in a brown box with custom labels and vintage stamps. The navy-and-white cards were displayed on moss, wrapped with blue ribbon, and sealed with wax that featured their wedding logo (which Brad created). "When the ribbon was cut, the doors of the gates on the invites opened up to reveal the details within," Heather says. "This spoke to the hidden enchanted garden theme." The set also drove guests to a wedding website that Heather designed.

Finding the One

Heather went wedding-dress shopping with her mother, two best friends, and her men of honor. At the end of the day, she didn't feel like she found the one, so she tried one more store the following week. The first gown she tried on was a strapless silk satin ball gown from Sarah Seven, complete with a sculpted bodice. Even though it was strapless—the one detail Heather wanted to avoid—she knew it was special, and immediately video called her mom. On the big day, a veil, Dior pearl bracelet, Cartier love bracelet (a gift from her family), diamond and pearl drop earrings, and Badgley Mischka flats completed the look.

As for her bouquet? Heather's favorite flowers are dahlias, so they were the stars of her arrangement by Valley & Co. (who also handled planning and event design); it featured the bloom in bold red, burgundy, and yellow colorways.

Pearls and Leather

Pearl hairpins in a mix of sizes added visual intrigue to the bride's half-up, half-down hairstyle. She ultimately bundled up in a navy leather jacket for the reception as a nod to Brad's navy tux—and to the live rock band they hired for the evening's entertainment.

Brad donned a custom navy Peter Millar tuxedo paired with a black shirt from Eton. Heather gifted him a Gucci belt and cuff links on the wedding day; they were the perfect finishing touches.

Black Gowns and Tuxedos

Heather had two bridesmaids, who wore coordinating black long gowns, and two men of honor; they stepped out in black tuxedos from Men's Warehouse and matched the groomsmen and ring bearer.

A Complete Love

The couple's first look took place just outside of the venue. "I saw Brad and felt calm and loved and so, so incredibly happy. It felt right," says the bride. Her happiness was infectious: "It was a feeling of completeness that I had never known," Brad shares. After their first look, Heather and Brad hopped into a shuttle with their photographer to pose for photos against the Seattle skyline.

Let's Get Married

As guests arrived in the ceremony space—which was backed by a greenery-covered wall and featured chandeliers overhead—they walked through greenery-covered gates, grabbed a tall can of beer wrapped in custom printed paper bags, and took their seats; they were serenaded by an accordion and violin band until the bride made her debut on the arm of her father. The service was officiated by Heather's brother, who led the pair through traditional vows.

Group Hug

One of Heather and Brad's favorite moments of their wedding day was walking down the aisle after the ceremony. "Our friends were throwing flower petals and then we walked to the end of the aisle and took a photo of everyone," Heather says. "There was just so much joy in that moment. It was so special."

Signature Cocktails

Brad created a Spotify playlist for the cocktail hour, which took place upstairs on a deck that looked over a canal. Along with an open bar, Heather and Brad offered two signature drinks named after their dogs; they were made with the distillery's house liquors. "The Harper," a vodka soda, was Heather's favorite; Brad preferred "The Scout," an old fashioned. Guests also enjoyed passed appetizers, including watermelon and feta skewers, charcuterie spears, and crostinis with mascarpone, duck breast, and fresh figs.

Escort cards were printed on round cards and displayed on a greenery-covered gate.

A Little Different

The ceremony space was flipped for the pair's dinner reception while the cocktail hour unfolded. Heather and Brad didn't want a uniform aesthetic, so they went with a mix of round and long tables topped with ivory linens and paired with metal chairs. Each centerpiece was slightly different, too, but highlighted dahlias in bold, bright hues.

A few eclectic lounge areas were set up and filled with a mix of antique and modern furnishings, plus leather and velvet details for texture.

Cozy Up

The pair provided pashminas for guests, so they could wrap up in something warm when the sun went down.

Pops of Blue

Beige chargers and blue-and-white antique floral dinner plates were placed at each spot. The logo Brad created for the big day was stitched onto ivory dinner napkins and displayed at the top of each menu, which was tied with blue ribbons and embellished with skeleton keys as a nod to the secret garden theme. Blue taper candles were placed throughout the stations for a pop of color.

Cloche Numbers

Each table number was printed and displayed on a bed of moss inside glass cloches.

The Dinner

Brad created another playlist full of the couple's favorite love songs to play during dinner, which spotlighted the pair's favorite comfort foods. They started with Heather's favorite salad—arugula, baby greens, shaved carrot, cucumber, fennel, cherry tomato, radish, and parsley with a dijon and cider vinaigrette— and served main courses like dark, roasted chicken with pommes purée and purple sage, ribeye steak frites with sauce bordelaise, and seasonal wild mushroom risotto with braised cauliflower.

Guests first saw the custom logo Brad created on the invitation suite's wax seal; at the wedding, the monogram was projected on the side of the venue.

'80s Night

After dinner, NiteWave played '80s covers, working off a setlist the couple weighed in on. At one point, Brad even joined them on stage to perform "Should I Stay Or Should I Go." The couple shared their first dance to Pearl Jam's "Just Breathe." "This is one of our favorite songs and has always meant so much to both of us," Heather says.

The Cake

Brad had a vision for the wedding cake, and the couple worked with the designers at The Sweet Side to make it happen. The white three-tiered confection was embellished with small white flowers; the middle layer was covered in Swiss dots for texture. They went with chocolate cake and with vanilla buttercream (Brad's favorite), but also served mini pavlova with soft cream, strawberries, and mint as a nod to Heather's favorite dessert.

To couples currently planning their weddings, Heather and Brad have this advice: "Make sure it is all about love," Heather says. "Love is why you are getting married—and both Brad and I walked away from our wedding having felt like the day was a big hug."
