60,000 Pounds of Ground Beef Have Been Recalled Due to Potential E. Coli Risk

If ground beef is on your lunch or dinner menu this week, be sure to check your supply—58,281 pounds of the protein have just been recalled.

The recall was announced by the United States Department of Agriculture on behalf of American Foods Group, which is operating as Green Bay Dressed Beef. According to the USDA, the supply of ground beef was recalled due to possible E. coli contamination. The problem was discovered when Food Safety and Inspection Services was notified that a sample collected by a state public health partner tested positive for the presence of E. coli.

While the recall affects a large supply of ground beef, the contaminated products were only shipped to distributers in Georgia, Michigan, and Ohio. The recall affects 80-pound cases of ground beef containing 10-pound plastic tubes. The products subject to recall have establishment number "EST. 18076" inside the USDA mark of inspection and can be identified by the following lot codes.

• "90050 BEEF FINE GROUND 81/19" with lot code D123226026.
• "20473 BEEF HALAL FINE GROUND 73/27" with lot code D123226027.
• "20105 BEEF FINE GROUND 73/27" with lot code D123226027.

While there have been no reports of illness so far, the USDA is encouraging distributors and other customers who have purchased these products to discard them or return them to the place of purchase.
