Brutalism

Popular in the mid-20th century, brutalism is primed for a comeback in 2024. Characterized by raw, exposed materials, Zillow has seen a 452 percent increase in the share of for-sale listings mentioning brutalist design. The stripped-back design style often includes features like blackened steel casement windows, raw concrete floors, and jagged patinated bronze light fixture. It's typically appealing to minimalists who want their home's interior to act as a blank canvas.

Sensory Gardens and Pathways

Those with a green thumb will look forward to this growing trend. Sensory gardens, which are designed to engage all five senses, typically incorporate a variety of plants, textures, colors, scents, sounds, and edible elements. According to Zillow, listings mentioning sensory gardens or pathways are up 314 percent compared to last year.

Cold Plunge Pools

Once reserved for spas and luxury listings, cold plunge pools are now becoming a desirable home feature. The popular wellness trend, which has been touted by influencers as a way to improve circulation and reduce inflammation, is becoming more accessible thanks to DIY-friendly versions. The share of listings on Zillow that feature an at-home cold plunge pool is up 130 percent compared to last year.

Pickleball Courts

Pickleball has taken off over the last few years, but now homeowners want complete courts in their backyards and neighborhoods. Nationwide, pickleball mentions are up 64 percent on Zillow compared to last year. "I've seen homeowners converting their driveways into courts by using portable nets," said Joy Kim Metalios, a Zillow premier agent partner. "Players with ultra-luxury homes are painting new pickleball lines on their sport courts or tennis courts."

Murano Glass Chandeliers

Looking for a new light fixture to hang in your living or dining room? Turn to Murano glass chandeliers—the ultimate bespoke piece which is currently making a comeback. Handmade on the island of Murano in Italy, these intricate fixtures are currently being featured 58 percent more often in listings on Zillow.

Murals

Wallpaper has experienced a resurgence in popularly in recent years—now homeowners are upping the ante with statement-making murals. According to Zillow, murals are appearing 18 percent more often in for-sale homes. And it's never been easier to implement this design trend in your home; wallpaper murals that depict a variety of beautiful scenes are more accessible than ever.
