Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Just Used Their Children's New Titles for the First Time

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have some exciting news to share: They recently announced that they celebrated their daughter Lilibet's christening—and used the little one's newest title for the first time in the process. "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor," a rep for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said, People reports.

This statement confirms that Lilibet now holds the title of princess—and that their son, Archie, is officially a prince. Their title upgrades went into effect after their grandfather, King Charles, took the throne following Queen Elizabeth's death. The rule of giving the grandchildren of monarchs prince and princess titles was established by King George V in his 1917 Letters Patent.

Buckingham Palace is due to make these changes on the royal website; the children's current titles are currently styled as "Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor" and "Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor." Archie and Lilibet's prince and princess titles will be reserved for formal settings, and they could still change down the line. For example, Archie could also receive the Sussex title (which his father currently holds) before inheriting the dukedom.

As for Lilibet's christening? The couple hosted a small ceremony at their Montecito, Calif., home last Friday, reports People. About 30 guests were in attendance, including Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, and Lilibet's godfather, Tyler Perry.

Perry reportedly flew in a 10-person gospel choir to perform during the intimate ceremony. The music selection included "Oh Happy Day" and "This Little Light of Mine" (the latter was played at the end of Meghan and Harry's wedding as they walked down the church steps). After the intimate gathering, everyone enjoyed food and dancing all afternoon—Archie even shared a dance with his sister to celebrate her special day.
