If you recently stocked up on or defrosted mushrooms for your weeknight or Thanksgiving meals, take caution: According to a new report by the Food and Drug Administration, some enoki mushrooms from Green Day Produce, Inc. have been linked to listeria contamination. The Vernon, Calif.-based company announced the recall last week, after listeria monocytogenes were detected in a retail sample analyzed and found by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD).

The packages of mushrooms come in 7.05-ounce clear plastic packages. Each bag is labeled "Enoki Mushroom" on the front and "Green Day Produce, Inc." on the back, and has the UPI code "16430-69080."

The FDA has not reported any illnesses connected with the discovery of listeria in the retail sample. However, the federal health agency announced that this product's distribution has been suspended and urged consumers to take caution, as listeria can cause serious illness and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.

If you purchased 7.05-ounce packages of the enoki mushrooms, they should be returned to the store of purchase to receive a full refund, noted the FDA. Consumers can also call Green Day Produce, Inc. at (323) 587-4688 or email william@greendayinc.com with any questions.
