What You'll Need

Materials

  • Scissors
  • White tulle
  • Yarn needle
  • White yarn, ribbon, or seam binding
  • Glow-in-the-dark paint

Instructions

  1. To begin, measure the wearer's height, double it, and cut about seven lengths (depending on the desired degree of transparency) of the white tulle to that measurement. Tulle comes in 54-inch and 72-inch standard widths; we used 108-inch width from a specialty store.

  2. Stack the lengths of the tulle; mark the center point of one long edge to indicate the top of the hood. Measure from shoulder to shoulder over the head of the wearer, add three inches, and divide by two.

  3. Measure that distance from the center point of the tulle to make an arc. Mark the arc with pins at 3- to 4-inch intervals.

For the tie, thread a yarn needle with three yards of white yarn, ribbon, or seam binding. Weave through all of the layers along the arc, leaving the ends for ties.

  5. To finish, shred the top two layers of the cape, tumble briefly in a hot dryer, or apply the glow-in-the-dark paint.
