How to Make a Silver Seed-Pod Ornament

Adorn your Christmas tree with these stylish DIY ornaments that are reminiscent of the great outdoors.

If pine trees are Mother Nature's Christmas gifts, seed pods are her stocking stuffers. Consider upcycling fallen pine needles during the season to make the most of the trees you welcome in your home. And design other stunning DIYs that can accent them, too. To fashion a forest of easy and arresting ornaments, just spray an assortment—pinecones, poppy pods, acorns, plus other natural beauties, like sponge mushrooms—with gleaming metallic paint. Add hooks, and they'll dazzle in your home, or a lucky recipient's.

What You'll Need

Materials

Sweetgum seedpods (similar to shown)
White-oak acorns (similar to shown)
Dried sponge mushrooms (similar to shown)
Dried lotus pods (Ashland Dried Lotus Pods)
Norway spruce pinecones (similar to shown) (NewHampshireNature Norway Spruce Pine Cones)
Dried poppy-pods bunch (PetalDriven Dried Poppy Pods)
Silver-plated wire (similar to shown) (Artistic Wire 20-Gauge Silver-Plated Wire)
Metallic spray paint
Hooks
Craft adhesive
Craft scissors

Instructions

Spray each natural item with a coat of silver paint; let dry about 10 minutes. Flip each over and spray-paint again; let dry about 10 minutes. Repeat, making sure to paint from different angles if your materials have lots of nooks and crannies.
To re-create our maleberry-pod ornament (second from top left in the photo), glue several maleberry pods together in descending size using craft adhesive.
Cut a short piece of silver wire; bend one end into a hook. Push straight end of wire into your item; secure with craft adhesive.
