- 5 hundred-gram skeins bulky-weight yarn (totaling 575 yards)
- 1 skein worsted or bulky yarn in contrasting color
- Knitting needles, U.S. size 10 (or size needed to obtain gauge)
- Crochet hook, size J or K

Cast on 3 stitches.

Row 1: Purl across.

Row 2: Knit 1, make 1 right, knit 1, make 1 left, knit 1 (5 stitches).

Row 3: Purl across.

Row 4: Knit 2, make 1 right, knit 1, make 1 left, knit 1, slip last stitch as if to purl with the yarn in front (7 stitches).

Row 5 and all following odd rows: Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl to last 3 stitches, knit 1, purl 1, slip last stitch as if to purl with yarn in front.

Row 6 and all following even rows: Knit 2, purl 1, make 1 right, knit across to last 3 stitches, make 1 left, purl 1, knit 1, slip last stitch as if to purl with yarn in front.

Continue knitting rows 5 and 6 until you have 179 stitches (60 inches) on the needle. On next right-side row, cast off loosely.

Using a crocheted slip stitch, starting at a midpoint of side of triangle, crochet up right side in the purl valley (if using worsted weight, double yarn), then across top one row beneath castoff, then down left side in the purl valley, back to beginning. Cut off with 3 inches excess, and weave in ends.
