These Are the States Buying the Most Candy Corn This Year, According to Brach's

The most divisive Halloween candy is also one of the most well-known.

October is undoubtedly a popular month for enjoying beloved candies like M&M's and Snickers—there's even an entire day dedicated to stocking up on the sugary treats. But there's one well-known Halloween candy that is often the subject of great debate: candy corn. Even if it's not your favorite, the orange, white, and yellow triangle-shaped confection is beloved in many parts of the country. In fact, Brach's candy company recently revealed which states candy corn is most and least popular in.

The company compiled their list by examining candy corn sales for both Brach's Classic Candy Corn and the Brach's Autumn Mix, which includes Classic Candy Corn, Brach's Harvest Corn, and Brach's Mellowcreme. The states with the highest sales were deemed the biggest candy corn lovers, while the states with the lowest sales were marked at the bottom of the list. According to its results, the top five states where candy corn is most popular are California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Michigan; Alabama, Hawaii, Nebraska, Vermont, and Wisconsin, on the other hand, saw the lowest sales.

It's important to note that Brach's list is determined solely by which states purchase the most candy corn overall, so the results aren't broken down per capita. For this reason, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the most populous states, such as California, Texas, Florida, and New York are named at the front-end of Brach's list. However, some states defy this logic. Iowa is named as the 11th largest purchaser of the confection, but it's the 33 most populous state. Similarly, Kentucky, the 26th most populous state, is ranked 19th on Brach's list.

Although some states have yet to jump on the candy corn bandwagon, American candy manufacturer Ferrara believes that it just takes the right type of candy corn to change minds. "Candy corn has been a Halloween staple for more than half a century," says Mariah Havens, director of seasonal marketing at Ferrara. "But we also know that candy corn is one of the most divisive seasonal treats and there are some people who don't enjoy it." To encourage more people to purchase the treat, Ferrara is introducing two alternatives to classic candy corn this year, including Nerds Candy Corn and Brach's Minions Candy Corn.
