As we enter the holiday season and temperatures begin to drop, one thing is certain: winter is almost here. In order to prepare for the chilly weather ahead, you may be thinking of ways to make your home feel more festive and cozy. To help, the interior design team at RubyHome Luxury Real Estate looked into Pinterest to reveal five décor trends that will be big this winter—and they shared their tips for how to use each in your home.

Winter Front Porch Décor

Your porch sets the tone for the rest of your home, so it's no surprise that people want to know how to decorate it for the season ahead. According to RubyHome, interest for "winter front porch décor" is beginning to surge on Pinterest across the U.S.—it's up 975 percent since September. Design experts recommend starting with a wreath made from wintry items, like dried leaves, pinecones, berries, or cinnamon. Complement your wreath by displaying a few seasonal plants, such as pine and eucalyptus with berries and thistle, then compete the look with a festive doormat.

Earth Tones for the Bedroom

Earth tones are a wonderful way to make your space feel more cozy. Pinterest searches across the U.S. for "earthy bedroom" have risen by 113 percent since July, and continue to spark interest during the winter periods, according to RubyHome. You can bring earth tones into your space many ways; try using colors inspired by nature, bringing plants into the bedroom, or by using wooden furnishings.

Winter Crochet

Winter is when many people spend more time indoors, which means it's the perfect time to pick up a new hobby. In the U.S., Pinterest searches for "winter crochet" have surged by 1,328 percent since May. Experts at RubyHome believe crochet is a wonderful way to add warmth and charm to your living space during the winter season. In fact, several items in your home can be adapted to crochet patterns, such as pillow covers, blankets, throws, or even photo frames.

Winter Coffee Bar Ideas

Few things compare to a warm cup of Joe on a cold winter morning. Make your coffee setup even cozier by creating a coffee bar that's inspired by the season. Pinterest searches for “coffee bar ideas kitchen counter” have surged by 117 percent since May. When creating a coffee bar that calls to the season, designers at RubyHome say to incorporate festive-themed mugs, seasonal flavors like peppermint, and warm, earthy colors like deep reds, oranges, browns, and yellows.

Green Christmas Décor

When you think about winter, the first thing that likely comes to mind is Christmas. And that sentiment is true on Pinterest as well—searches for “green Christmas décor” have increased by 4,900 percent since July across the U.S. Designers at RubyHome say paint is a wonderful way to incorporate green tones in your home—they recommend doing so in the bathroom, kitchen, or with an accent wall.
